You’re Invited to an Open House

Magnus Centre Inc., with support from Manitoba Health and Healthy Living, plans to transform the former Sharon Home facility into a high quality rehabilitation centre that will provide a wide range of addiction and mental health services.

To help with the planning of this new facility and to assist us in making a community-inclusive re-zoning application to the City of Winnipeg, we would like to hear your views.

We would also like to update the community on activities that have occurred since our last Public Meeting conducted on June 24, 2009 and how what we heard from the community at that time was considered in our application to the City.

Please join us at the open house to find out more about what is being proposed:

146 Magnus Avenue (former Sharon Home)

Tuesday November 3rd, 2009

6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

 Serving Point Douglas

The proposed facility will provide assistance to adults from the Point Douglas and surrounding area who have made a voluntary decision to seek care and get help. A multi-disciplinary team will provide care and services to ensure the diverse needs of these individuals are met. The maximum number of residents will be 78.

To make sure that any and all concerns of the community are addressed, a formal Good Neighbor Agreement will be developed.

The Magnus Centre Board of Directors have made a formal commitment to local employment opportunities, local access to treatment services, community access to facility spaces, and the provision of high quality security to the community of North Point Douglas.

 Building Improvements

The Manitoba government is providing the funding to transform the facility and will be responsible for managing the construction costs. The older wing of the building will be demolished.

 Security

Security will be provided at the facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This will include hourly rounds on the external grounds to increase the safety in the surrounding area.

Park Improvements

After conducting a Crime Prevention through Environmental Design analysis as part of its re-zoning application, Magnus Centre Inc. proposes to invest $30,000 toward new lighting, planting, and other improvements to Pritchard Boat Dock Plaza.

For more information on this project, please join us at the public open house or call 938-3003.
