Neighbours Helping Neighbours
"I Have" -- "I Need"     Swaps & Free Stuff

One of the great strengths in our community is that if we know of a neighbour in need, we will step up to help them. There is much reward in sharing time and resources, and equally rewarding is the feeling of those on the receiving end, that people care about them. Whether you are an "I Have" or an "I Need" we'd like to hear from you!

I Have - If you have skills, household or children's items, an attic full of "stuff", or time to spare, and want to help others in the community, we encourage you to let us know.

I Need - We would like to encourage the use of this website for people in the community to make their needs known, so that others in the community may help them meet those needs.

As people contact us, we will try to match the "I Have" with the "I Need".

I Have:

Barry Hammond gets the ball rolling (or the truck, in this case) by making his vehicle available to community members.

A small, caring community where people know their neighbours can lead to sharing vehicles, too. For example, few people need a truck for more than one or two days per year so why own or rent one?  If you need to transport a bed or other large object, it’s ideal to have a neighbor with a truck and a willingness to help out.  My beat-up half ton has helped out a lot of people in the community. In an era of economic hardship and polluting vehicles, a neighbourhood truck can diminish hardship both on individuals and on the earth.  Such gestures can extend beyond transportation.  Sharing gardening tools and expertise or the excess produce from your garden labours is a great way to be a good neighbour.

I Need:

The Eagle Wing Early Education Centre, our community daycare, needs the following items for their School-Age Program in Room 21 at Norquay School:

  • Recycled household items such as empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls, empty cereal boxes, egg cartons, craft supplies for making crafts

  • Gently used toys and books

  • Volunteers to help out and spend quality time with the kids

Please call 803-8941 for more information

I Need:

We would like to gather photos of the people and places in our community. If you have photos you would be willing to have posted on the website, we would greatly appreciate receiving them. They would be scanned and returned to you.

We also need photos or paintings that depict our beautiful landscapes and gardens, for use in brochures and information about community gardening.

Please contact Heather at 801-3086 or by email at info@pointdouglas.net
