North Point Douglas Women's Centre Safety Program:

Safety Coordinator:  Linda Williams is our full-time Safety Coordinator.  She is engaged in a variety of programs to help ensure that North Point Douglas continues to become a safer community.  Programs include:

  • Youth Outreach Program — participated with 26 different youth programs, engaged with more than 154 individual youth and participated in  35 park surveillances.  Our YOW (Youth Outreach Worker) intervenes in bullying situations, critical incidents and works with our partner organization, Graffiti Art Program, to facilitate a Youth Safety Council.  Our YOW connects with other youth outreach workers addressing issues such as sexually exploited youth.

  • Walking School Bus — employs two community women as monitors each of whom walks a route with up to 15 children.  Children are met at their homes and walk to and from school together.

  • Crime Reduction Planning — we facilitate a crime reduction planning process.  Community residents meet regularly to plan activities and programs that help make North Point Douglas safer.

  • Dreamcatchers — is an adaptation of the Citizens On Patrol Program.  Dreamcatchers walk for health and for safety

WRHA Needle Drop Box Program/Needle Safety:

Even though it's rare to find used needles in our community anymore, you may still come across them in other areas, especially on or near Main Street. Below are important instructions for what to do should you or your children find a needle or syringe.
